Applied Dynamics Initiative Robotics Program
Applied Dynamics Initiative Robotics Program |
Who are we? FAMILY; What do we do? Have fun, build robots, help others, learn; How do we do it? Teamwork!
Our program is a community driven, practical learning experience led by volunteer coaches, mentors and parents for students interested in STEEAM (science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, arts & mathematics) and robotics in general. STEEAM concepts are learned and utilized in the planning, designing, building, programming, and operating of a robot for competing in tournament style play with others in alliances to receive ranking points which ultimately determine the best in design, efficiency and performance. The emphasis is solely not on the robot and its success “as an end” but as a “means to an end” where the student grows in skills and is elevated in the desire and passion for a continuing STEEAM education and provides for an increased likelihood of college scholarship opportunities and an enhanced student resume. Other related skills such as running an organization, student government, media, public speaking, public presentation, documentation, budgeting, scouting, note taking, etc. are emphasized and learned. It is our desire to help your student thrive in a world of technology and ultimately create mentors that will carry on the torch to the next generation of STEEAM students. Our Robotics Program strives to be more of a family then just a program and will work to develop the 5 C’s of our team’s CULTURE, robot and team CONSTRUCTION, COMPETITION, team COMMUNICATION & COMMUNITY outreach, to the benefit of all of our coaches, mentors, members, parents, sponsors and the FIRST INSPIRES organization.
The bulk of the Our Robotics Program is an August through April commitment for FTC and Jan – April for FRC. We will be participating in several events throughout the year, including several events through the FIRST ™ Inspires organization. The Our Robotics Program requires much effort to be put forth on our and your behalf in order to prepare properly for competitions. It’s well worth the effort for us all and it can be quite addicting as it has been found to be a great deal of fun. Build, Fundraising and Organization Meetings may be held in the evenings, and/or on weekends. There will be 2-4 meetings each week during the main season and more (depending on how far the team advances) and periodic meetings for organization and team building throughout the year.
All students will be expected to fill out the application. The FIRST ™ Inspires organization requires that an FTC team has no more than 15 students and unlimited for FRC. We want to continue to build the Our Robotics Program, so if your child does not make it on to the team this year we highly recommend you apply again next year. Any student that does not make a team will also be submitted to a waiting list and may be asked on the team part way through the season if a spot becomes available. Please note that students can be dismissed from the program due to behavioral issues, or consistent absences (please refer to the code of conduct).
There is a registration fee for each student participating in the ENIGMA FTC & FRC progasm. The registration fee is used to cover costs such as the purchase of playing field components each season and various team related expenses. Each student will be required to wear a team uniform, which consists of a competition shirt with the latest sponsors printed on the back and team determined pants and accessories. All other spirit wear is optional.
There may be other fees throughout the season associated with the team such as travel required for competitions, etc. For the program to continue, each student/family should be willing to help raise funds to support the team. There will be fundraising opportunities throughout the year. Please stay tuned in DISCORD for details. Notification of the receipt of your application will be made via email. Team selection confirmation will be emailed upon approval.
We use DISCORD for communications, parents and students should maintain a profile on DISCORD and abide by the rules put forth by our program for using the platform. Included here Appendix B DISCORD Rules.

Welcome to our Robotics Program
Our robotics program is designed for students of middle – high school age to compete head to head, using an alliance format.
Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in a FIRST ™ -designed challenge.
The robot kit is mostly reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using Android Studio (Java based). Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategies and build a robot to complete “challenge” tasks based on sound engineering principles.
Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.
Students get to:
- Design, build, and program robots
- Apply real-world math, science, engineering, and business concepts
- Develop problem-solving, organizational, technical, social, and team-building skills
- Document their personal journey and the team’s journey for the season
- Meet and make new friends
- Travel to new places and see new things
- Compete in tournaments and cooperate within alliances
- Compete for a spot in the State and World Championship
